“The Ninth International Race, Vigilant” defeating Valkyrie, October 9th 1893, by Frederick S. Cozzens. the proof retains its color bars at the bottom, lacks the printed titles and the artists signature. We could find only the MIT copy. Mounted on canvass board. Vigilant was the victorious United States defender of the eighth America's Cup in 1893 against British challenger Valkyrie II. Vigilant was designed by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff and built in 1893 by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, Rhode Island. She was Herreshoff's first victorious America's Cup defender design.
