MORSE, SAMUEL F. B. (1791 - 1872) American inventor who experimented in telegraphy, inventor of the Morse Code, and sent the first wire message "What hath God wrought!" Nice content A.L.S. "Sam'l F. B. Morse", 2pp. 8vo., Poughkeepsie, Nov. 20, 1856 to the Secretary of the Poghkeepsie Lyceum. Morse very politely declines to give a series of lectures, in part: "…I would say that however desirous I am to do all in my power to promote the laudable objects of the Lyceum, I find my time so completely opccupied with matters of pressing importance that I shall not be able at present to lecture…I know of no institution before whom I should delight to Lecture more…" Fine.
