Large archive of 56 Typed Letters Signed "George Antheil", 74 pages, quarto, 1950-1953, Hollywood, California to A.E. Hotchner. This correspondence resulted from a collaboration between composer George Antheil (1900-1959) and writer A.E. Hotchner (1920- ) to adapt Ernest Hemingway's "The Capital of the World" to ballet. Hotchner, Hemingway's biographer and close personal friend, served as liaison between the script's creative team and the great novelist. The original idea was to re-cast Hemingway's work as a ballet for the screen, however discussion arose as to whether it should be written for the stage. The evolution of the work as envisioned by the Antheil-Hotchner team with input from Hemingway comes through clearly on these pages and makes them an important resource for the serious student of these creative men. Somewhat aged, else Fine condition throughout.
