Crucifix, 6" x 13 1/8", ca. 18th-19th centuries, provenance unknown. This vernacular crucifix was probably meant for a household shrine. The cross and its base are crafted from dark wood punctuated with decorative applications of a metallic glass paste material. The figure of Christ was carved from a single piece of ivory that today enjoys the glossy yellow-ish patina that only comes from great age. A notable piece of religious folk art. Fine condition.
