Horatio Kurtz (Lithographic artist, worked Phildephia, 19th century) Watercolor and pencil rendition of a double horse drawn wagon belonging to the Commercial Ice & Coal Company of Philadelphia. At the top of the wagon is painted, "Imported Ice" above a painting of the Schuylkill River Wharf, a bridge, a boat, two company wagons, and the address, "Commercial Ice & Coal Co., Lombard Wharf, Schuylkill. Office No.1418 So.Penn Square". On the front of the wagon is printed, "Built by the Commercial Ice & Coal Co." Behind the wagon is a man carrying a block of "imported ice". Signed lower right, "Drawn by H. Kurtz 1886". Encased by a split turned chair rail frame, the entire piece measures 26 1/2 x 30 inches; the watercolor 14 x 18 1/2 inches.
