A complete issue of the Frank Leslie’s Illustrated, August 22, 1863, 16pp., disbound, VG. From cover, a 1/2 page engraving “Siege of Charleston - Night Attack of the US Troops on Fort Wagner, July 18 ...” with report. From the interior is a two page spread of 4 engravings showing various views of Charleston harbor. These engravings were from W.T. Crane’s original sketches. under orders from General Quincy A. Gilmore, Crane drew a series of sequential views of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor in the summer of 1863 depicting the stages of the fort’s demolition during a prolonged Union bombardment. General Gilmore included these detailed and shocking drawings in his final report to the War Department on these operations, later reproduced in the government’s Official Records, Volume 28, Part 1.
