A Pair of FBI Wanted Posters, 10-1/2” x 16,” minor foxing, else VG. the wanted posters seeking the arrest of James Earl Ray, the assassin of Martin Luther King, Jr., 1968. Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, on official U.S. government paper with eagle watermark. Wanted Flyers 442 and 442-A, dated April 17 and April 19, 1968, signed in facsimile by FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Addressed to Postmaster, North Wilbraham Massachusetts. The first version (442) refers to Ray by his alias, Eric Starvo Galt, and uses a 1968 photograph twice, with eyes closed and drawn in by an artist. The second version (442-A) uses a 1960 mugshot, and a composite of the mug shot and the 1968 photograph. Ray is described as having a "noticably protruding left ear" and "reportedly is a lone wolf." States that Ray is sought "in connection with a murder wherein the victim was shot," and cautions the suspect is considered "armed and extremely dangerous." Verso lists regional FBI offices.
