A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Charles W. Manning, Co. B, 13th Mass. Vols., "Head Quarters 1st Army Corps from Camp Va., Mar. 31, 1863", in part: "…I sent you a map of the battle of Antietam…I thought…you would like to have an idea of the ground where one of the hardest battles was fought since the war commenced. The lieut. that got them up is Captain on Gen. Reynolds staff now…from what I saw while the battle was going on and what I have seen of the ground since I think that it a pretty good map. There is only one mistake and that you will see as soon as you look at it…two lines made to represent our division (Rickett's) are painted blue when they had ought to be red…the Army of the Potomac is in a good condition and puts a good deal of confidence in Old Joe. Things look as there was going to be a move made before long, but it has been awful bad weather lately and that has…been a drawback to Old Hooker's plans…when we do go we shall have to go flanking…Charles W.
