A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 8pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Charles W. Manning, Co. B, 13th Mass. Vols., "Head Quarters 1st Army Corps from Camp Va., June 11, 1863", in part: "…we are in the same place that we were when I last wrote you but we have received orders several times…to march at daylight…we have packed up evereything ready to march…I have no idea not can I make anything out of their moves. About a week ago the 6th Corps moved down to the river and one division went across. They stayed there alone until last night when the rest of the corps crossed over. It may be that the whole army is going to cross again but I hardly think it unless the rebs are leaving which does not seem to be the case…there is only 12,500 men for duty in this whole corps…in a very few days there is another brigade going home…give my love to Hittie and her mother and tell them that I am sick (of the war)…Chas.
