ELIZA RACHEL FELIX (1821-1858). As a child she was singing on the streets of Paris when she was heard by the singing master Etienne Choron who took her under his wing and sponsorship. By age of 17 she had already established a life's career. Discovered by a noted critic she achieved great success, her career becoming one of fame and great notoriety. Lot of 3 items (1) 1847 dated, New York published 7 page sheet music "THE HEBREW MAIDEN'S LAMENT…sung by Mlle. Rachel…" with composer's name and dedication…all in fancy multi-style print on title page. Showing age. Some light brown spotting throughout. (2) Another fancy printed 1855 dated New York published sheet music "RACHEL POLKA…COMPOSED BY GEORGE R. CROMWELL"…in fancy print and also dedicated "to Mlle. Rachel" with full color standing portrait of the lovely young maiden in fancy gown. Inscribed by the composer Cromwell in bold pen with his compliments (to another young lady). Light aging. Generally exc. +. Minor spotting on left blank margin. (3) Scarce American Judaica imprint: "RACHEL AND THE NEW WORLD…A TRIP TO THE UNITED STATES AND CUBA…" published New York 1856 by Dix, Edwards &Co. 404 pages all about famous actress. Pages generally exc. +. Light damp staining bottom of first few pages only and some light staining on a few other pages. Covers weak. Showing shelf wear especially at corners and lacks covering for spine. (Singerman No. 1416) Received with great enthusiasm throughout Europe and for years their "rage" of Paris, she made her American tour in the mid-1850's. Accompanied with some detailed biographic information about her from reliable sources. Interesting group of three items.
