Interesting and unusual, neatly and boldly penned 1½ page letter (both sides) from Baltimore Dec. 25, 1848 signed only "Reinah." Has put off writing but "…don't think I have forgotten your kindness…always fresh in my memory…shall like to see you… come if you can…cousin David helps me pay my rent…had to spend every cent to pay the freight on my things [from Phila] if you could aid me a little…you would never be forgotten…have not been able to procure my winter wood and coal as yet…have a few customers who buy my bitters and pleased with them…have no servant, I do all my own work and attend my bitters also…times remarkably dull in Richmond when I left, they are trying to do away the sale of ardent spirits…Temperance meetings held nearly every nigh. [have] injured me considerably in the sale of my bitters but I trust in God times may be better here. I saw cousin David a few days ago. When I see you I shall have a great deal to tell you. You know, Isaac, I can tell you anything…" and more. Exc. +. Last sheet acts as cover with address and with postal surcharge.
