Isaac Wise (then in Albany, N.Y.) writes to Isaac Leeser in Philadelphia. Single sheet (8 x 12) neatly penned letter entirely in his hand and bold autograph signature "Dr. Wise" with fancy scroll. Reverse side acting as cover with address and postal surcharge. Undated; circa 1850's. In those early days before Wise edited his own "American Israelite" (in Cincinnati) he was leading that N.Y. congregation and was acting as an agent for Leeser's "OCCIDENT." He writes: "send the Occident to Moses Shloss and…Mr. Finkel's [in Albany]…and to Mr. Jordan in Hudson, N.Y. Mr. Beckel has paid…to your former agent. Mr. Wysinger is in prison for a badly managed bankruptcy, consequently I can collect nothing. About your [Hebrew word] I have lost the bill…please send me [another]. I have paid Mr. Spanier." Just some light aging. Exc. +. Small tear extreme bottom of the wide blank margin.
