War-date Union officer's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by 2nd Lt. Wallace McGrath, Co. K, 15th Ohio Vols., "Head Qurs. 1st Brigade, Murfreesboro, Tenn., May 15, 1863," in part: "…I like drilling very much especially the Brigade drill. It is very pretty to see large bodies of troops moving to the tap of the drum…a Division drill will be grand to see. All is quiet at Murfreesboro…this army is all ready for any 100,000 men to come up here to fight us. The fortifications are now in good order and are being strengthened every day…why cant you come down and see me…if you should come down here at the time we would have a fight you could act the part of Volunteer Aid De. Camp o the staff…the hat business [is] a good business…the army took the news of Vallandigham's arrest as the forerunner of other good thing Genl. Burnside will do, but we do not think the arrest sever enough…W. McGrath A. D. C." Minor spotting, else VG.
