War-date Union soldier's letter, 2 1/2pp. 4to., written by Pvt. Jesse P. Moren, Co. G, 93rd Ohio Vols., "Camp Drake," Murfreesboro, Tenn., June 7, 1863, in part: "…today the 93rd [Ohio] was paid off two months pay…our boys have been skirmishing some of late…some think Bragg will attack us here soon. I wish he would but fear he wont…tell Bill I want him to either marry Mat or come to war & get killed. The latter if he pleases…I suppose you cut the fat hog this spring…I wish I could have been there to go round with you & hold your plug hat while you noted items. Tell Will to be careful of that arm if he & Jule get to sleeping double…remember their joints are tender yet…if you see any nice young lady…who thinks she would like to marry a soldier please tell her of this individual & say he is a fine industrious, hard working, hard drinking young man & is very anxious to double his joints & can give the best of references respecting his manhood…Old Rosey had a man to pull on a rope here the day before yesterday convicted of participating in the foul crime of murdering an old helpless Union man in East Tenn. I hope more of them may be highly honored…I hope you will go for those cowardly butternut sons of bitches up there & show them no quarter…make them pull rope & bite the dust…I expect Bragg & Rosey will join one of these days & get up a ball that will eclipse…a masquerade bully for the ball.
