War-date Union soldier's letter, 2 1/2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Robert Henry Greenfield, Co. I, 130th New York Vols., "Camp Suffolk, Va.," June 6, 1863, to his wife, in part: "…there is fair prospects of our regiment being turned…into a cavalry regiment…it seems to please all of the boys. We will not have to go a foot…on long marches through the mud and water…I would like to be up there the Fourth but I do not think that I will…for almost every soldier that has gone home…have deserted…the kernel says that he cannot get any more furloughs…if the boys do not return to their respective companies…you see just because them miserable whelps did not come back the rest cannot get a furlough. For my part I can stand it…Robert H. Greenfield." The original transmittal cover is included. VG
