War-date Union soldier's battle letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Robert Henry Greenfield, Co. I, 130th New York Vols., "Camp Suffolk, Va.," June 18, 1863, to his wife, in part: "…I have just returned to camp from a seven days march…we have been in several skirmishes but none of our company was shot. There was two killed and two wounded in our regiment. One of the killed was Steven Skiff in Company A and one in Co. B [Samuel Brooker]. Frank Lockwood was wounded in the hand. He belongs to Com. F. Our regiment would of crossed Blackwater but the rebs burnt the bridge and the river was so deep that we would of had to swam it and then we would of got our ammunition wet. So we did not cross. We was ordered…to Washington. We start at three…tomorrow morning…Robert H. Greenfield." VG.
