War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written, on rare usage of colorful Magnus "Marching Along" poem stationery, by Pvt. Robert Henry Greenfield, Co. I, 1st New York Dragoons, "Camp near Manassas Junction, Va., Oct. 11, 1863, to his wife, in part: "…I have got about a dozen lame and sick horses to doctor…it keeps me quite busy…you spoke of Mrs. Hendershott coming…to Washington to see her man. Before she came he was getting better, but now he is worse…I think it had a rather bad affect on him…tell Moses that I would like to be up there with my horse and run horse with him for I have a horse that can git out of the way every time. He is a dark chestnut brown. He looks some like Philip Allen…there is 30 thousand of our troops in Suffolk and a large force going up the Peninsula again to attack Richmond again…there is so many false report now days so no more this time…R. H. Greenfield." Near fine.
