War-date letter, 3pp. 8vo., written by Laura J. Morgan (who is the recipient of all the Thurston letters offered here), Sunbury, Pa., April 10, 1865, to her beau Lt. William M. Thurston, Battery F (Ricketts), 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery, in part: "…Oh I am glad that you are safe. Tis a miracle it seems to me…do you think you will not have to go into battle again…just to night the news of Sheridan's capturing Lee and his surrender has been confirmed. You are ahead of us in regard to knowing such grand things…we are now in the light…Lee must feel bad and Davis worser. The Inquirer…says that Sambo and Cuffe had nice times in the churches at Richmond. If they would not have I don't know who should have as the trouble has all been for them…there are any quantity of flags here but I think the one on the Mill is nicest as the rest are mostly locomotive flags…Pap says he think he will go to Richmond now as business is pretty nearly suspended and all things but greenbacks favorable…I have suffered so much suspense and anxiety that I could scarcely wait to hear from you while there has been so much excitement…yours, L. J. Morgan [to] Lt. Thurston." VG
