Marvelous WWI Trench Art being a rimmed shell, 4-1/4”diameter, 15-1/4” tall, heavy brass. The engraving is crisp, above a 4”x 6” engraved castle, “Souvenir De La Grande Guerre” and below, “HD Qts. Det.,14th Engrs. U.S.A. army. On the back side, “SOMME, 1918.” The de la Grande Guerre is now an international museum of comparative history, attracting over 80,000 visitors a year. All presentations are made in three languages — French, English and German — to show the experiences of the major participants in the First World War and the impact of this conflict on the 20th century.
