Original bold penned autograph signature. Two pages; each on the fancy printed letterhead of the Phila "PUBLIC LEDGER… OFFICE OF THE PUBLISHER" (each sheet blank on reverse). Writes of plans to send non-Jewish observers to Russia to report back on the massacres: "…I think it is essential that the American people have reliable information on the real situation of the Jewish race in Russia…don't think Americans understand the situation…I know it is not understood in newspaper circles…relations of the Jews to the Revolutionary Movement in Russia are not understood…real causes of Jewish massacres not appreciated…I may be wrong but my own judgment is that the moving impulse has been the government itself to punish them…more [because of] race prejudice or religious bigotry." Although the first sheet marked in corner "copy" both sheets are on the original printed letterhead (not copies) and the Ochs signature is his personal penned autograph, quite clearly indicating this copy was intended for some other official, interested party. Normal light aging. Exc.
