Large 11 x 31 preprinted U.S. Army form with bold penned ink completion. Headlined in both printing and fancy penned entry along top "CONSOLIDATED MORNING REPORT OF THE INDEPENDENT BATTALION NEW YORK VOLUNTEERS COMMANDED BY LT. COLONEL SIMON LEVY." Many columnar entries showing numbers present and on duty / absent, etc. Other penned entries indicate form completed at "Folly Island S.C." and the "Commanding Officer" Lt. Colonel Levy with full autograph signature of Simon Levy as C.O. along with autograph signature of his Adjutant, Lt. B. Kachman. Accompanied by photostats from well-known works including "The American Jew as Patriot Soldier and Citizen" by Simon Wolf (1895) which lists all known Jewish servicemen in Civil War. Lengthy entry for Simon Levy mentions his command of that outfit during the capture of Folly and Morris Islands, S.C. and other engagements. Also mentions his three sons who served gallantly and their participation in numerous engagements. This document is the most basic of all Army reports. Especially showy with Colonel Levy's name so prominently and boldly penned in three different places. Normal aging, but exc.
