Lot of 26 postcards, May, 22, 1920, Palestine. An American seaman from the U.S.S. Pittsburgh took along a camera when he and his shipmates were granted shore leave in the Holy Land. The resulting snapshots were reproduced as post cards in accordance with that popular custom of the day. Locations visited were Jaffa, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem with familiar landmanrks such as the Mosque of Omar and the Damascus Gate figuring prominently in the pictures. Although many if the images show a pristine, almost medieval, world, others are full of modern sailors in their dress whites against an exotic oriental backdrop. VF condition.
