Autograph Letter Signed, “D.N. Rogers” 2p. quarto, Gloucester, Massachusetts, April 4, 1823, with integral leaf addressed to John Rogers of Boston, and reads in part: “... I am going tomorrow to sell at auction the remains of what came on shore from the wreck of Brig. Rebecca Ann which no doubt you have been acquainted with. This melancholy shipwreck the men - 9 in number that came on shore were carried to the meeting house where a prayer was made by Mr. Flagg & an address delivered by Revd. S. Jones wihc closed with an anthem, the procession was very lengthy & solem - followed by masters of vessels, mates, seamen, citizens & c, they were carried in carts as the travelling was sos bad they could not be carried...the bodies were arranged in the broad aisle they were decently interred in one grave so large as to lay side by side, first Capt. Walker, mate two passengers & seamen, everything was done to make the interment respectable as it deserved...” Much more. VG.
