Autograph Letter Signed, Arthur Watson, 4p. folio, The Rectory House Ardrahan Co. Galway, Deocese of Vrilmaeduagh, Ireland, May 17, 1847, addressed to Jacob Harvey of New York. It reads in part: “...At a time when calamity of the most appalling nature in teh shape of famine in its most deuful form is still existing in our unfortunate country, it behoves every man to escort himself in every legitimate way, and to every quarter on behalf of his suffering fellow countrymen - and as curate of the Protestant Church in the West of (the extreme west of Ireland) I am called on to witness many scenes of the most hear rendering wretchedness...I feel much encouragement under the circumstances to apply through you to the ‘Friends in New York’ not for the good things of this life, but such as they liberalby can bestwo to save many a live by contributions to the relief....” VG.
