An anti-drinking anthem with lyrics like "O, for shame! all you rumsellers, You're offensive to our smellers". Two copies. Forty names are printed below the following message: "We the undersigned request all persons not to shoot, hunt, trap, or catch game of any kind, or take anything from our premises without our permission." even toning, VF...Plus; Ticket, 1 1/2" x 3", ca. 1860's. Admission for one to Hope's "Army of the Potomac". Presumably this was a Civil War play. Three copies of the ticket. All VF...Plus; Brochure, THE ST. LAWRENCE AND SAGUENAY RIVERS FROM QUEBEC TO RIMOUSKI AND CHICOUTIMI, opens to 13 1/2" x 23", 1873, Quebec, Canada. A detailed map of the rivers is on the verso of a brochure describing the passenger steamers plying the waters. Fine condition...Plus; Canceled check, 3 1/2" x 8", April 9, 1876, Carson City, Nevada. Drawn for $110 on the Carson City Savings Bank, this attractive check features vignettes of an American eagle and the obverse of a gold coin dated 1870. The latter illustration noteworthy because Carson City hosted a United States branch mint from 1870 until 1893. Gold and silver coins were struck there using ores from the nearby lodes being exploited. VF...Stock certificate, THE BAXTER ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPANY, 7 1/2" x 10 1/2", April 28, 1885, New York City. A very early electric company certificate featuring a lit bulb of the times. For 600 shares. Printed in green ink and attractive. Two small splits on left edge and aging, else Fine condition...Plus; ALS, one page, octavo, September 14, 1888, Pontiac, Illinois. This letter discussing local and national politics predicts that "...Cleveland is certain to be elected...". On physician's letterhead. Fine condition...Plus; Alice in Wonderland Stamp Case, 3" x 4", 1889, England. A board folder for holding postage stamps as "Invented by Lewis Carroll" per the back cover. This neat little item features well-known color engravings of Alice on the front and the Cheshire Cat on the back. With the case comes a 38 page booklet titles "Eight or Nine Wise Words on Letter Writing" by Carroll, of course. Both items fit neatly into a custom envelope. Fine condition...Plus; Raffle ticket, 2 1/4" x 3 1/2", ca. 1890's. A gold watch is being raffled at the Wigwam Saloon on Front Street. Fine condition...Plus; ALS, 6 pages, octavo, ca. 1905, Naples, Italy. A tourist writing to her friend "Emily" back home devotes the top half of the letter's first page to a professional quality self-portrait in watercolor. This is a splendid likeness of a well-bred Edwardian lady. A unique piece of art. Fine condition...Plus; Group of 17 advertising post cards for Singer Sewing machines, 1914. The verso of each card shows a Singer machine while the fronts are given to paintings of rustics in national costume-- often with a Singer sewing machine at hand. Some duplication. VF...Plus; Brochure, WORLD'S FAIR NEW YORK 1939, 4" x 8" folded, 1939, New York City. A colorful sleeve showing the fair's globe and needle houses the guide which was produced and distributed by Royal Liverpool Insurance Groups. Fine condition...Plus; Newspaper, EGYPTIAN MAIL, 4 pages, folio, December 2, 1943, Alexandria, Egypt. This heavily illustrated English-language paper reports the now famous Egyptian summit meeting between Churchill, Roosevelt, and Chiang Kai Shek. Aging, splits, and folds. Good condition... Post card, IN HONOR OF THE U.S. ARMED FORCES, 5 x 7 3/8", February 26, 1946, Washington, D.C. Saluting the recent Allied victory, this "First Day of Issue" post card carries five commemorative WWII stamps. Very Fine condition.
