Autograph Letter, 8p. octavo, November 27, 1853, Malaya, with cover addressed to Charles Mills & Co for Mrs. P.T. Jackson in Boston, and reads in part: “...Mayala though it has the best climate I’ve met with yet, by all odds, yet it is not perfection...Every day my window is open..As to its setting; to the east & north are moderate hills...on top of one is perched a pcituresque old Moorish Castle with towers...it was greener when the barbarians live here...To the west - blue - purple mountains just those you see in pictures of Italy...To the South the sea a broad sheet of gold in the bright sunshine...” Much more.
