A archive of fifteen 1878 United States Lighthouses signed letterhead billings and receipts for labor and materials for upkeep and repair provided to US Army Corp of Engineer 10th District lighthouses. All 15 Light House billings are dated between September and December, 1878. The documents are date stamped as received at the "U.S. CORP ENGINEERS LIGHTHOUSE AT OSWEGO, NEW YORK". The Lighthouses listed on the billings include "SANDUSKY, OHIO LIGHT STATION, GENESE, NEW YORK LIGHT STATION, BUFFALO, NEW YORK LIGHT STATION, ORCHARD LIGHT HOUSE, CEDAR POINT, OHIO LIGHT STATION, MAMAJUDA LIGHT STATION, OSWEGO, NEW YORK". The detailed bills and receipts include many items including "DAMAGE DONE TO THE EAST PIER, CLEVELAND BY A STEAM BARGE THAT HIT THE PIER". Other items included "REPAIRING A BOAT AT THE BUFFALO, NEW YORK LIGHT HOUSE, A LIGHT KEEPERS DWELLING AT THE OSWEGO, NEW YORK LIGHT STATION, POLISHED GLASS FOR THE GENESE, NEW YORK LIGHT STATION, GALVANIZED CHIMNEY AT THE BUFFALO, NEW YORK LIGHT STATION, ETC.". Other items provided included 5 ¾ days carpenters work, 2 ½ days of painting, carpenters maul, lighthouse oil, hardware, glass, paint, 50 pounds of lead, etc. The fifteen billings are of different sizes and about 5 x 8 ½ to 14 x 14 ½ inches in size and has normal handling and aging but overall are in nice condition. The billings are from different local companies that provided the services to the Lighthouses and give much insight into what it took to keep the Lighthouses working at such a very date as 1878..
