A 1939 very Rare group of three items (poem book, framed photo and letter with original envelope) that are all signed by the well known poet Edgar Guest. Edgar Guest died in 1959 and is believed to have written over 11,000 poems and did publish several books. The three signed items were given to his close friend Donald Kraatz and as a signed group are no very scarce if not rare. The three signed items are all signed and dated either 1938 or 1939. The letter has Edger Guest's letterhead and is completely written in his hand and states "EDGER A. GUEST, DETROIT FREE PRESS, DETROIT, MICHIGAN, POINT LAUX BAROULS, MICH. AUGUST 21, 39, MY DEAR DONALD - YOUR BIRTHDAY CARD MADE ME VERY HAPPY AND I THINK IT GRAND OF YOU TO REMEMBER IT. GIVE MY BEST TO YOUR MOTHER. I HOPE SOON TO SEE BE SEEING YOU. SINCERLY YOUR FRIEND, EDGAR A GUEST". Hand written letters are usually much more scarce or rare then typed and signed letters. The letter is 8 ½ x 11 inches in size and folded for mailing and has one small edge fold but overall looks very nice. The envelope filled out in Edger Guest's hand writing is postmarked 'POINT LAUX BAROULS, MICH AUG. 22, 1939" and was opened at one end but is in nice condition. What is interesting is the letter is signed about a week before Germany invaded Poland and World War II started. The signed book a book written by Edgar Guest and is titled "ALL IN A LIFETIME, EDGER A. GUEST, 1938". The hardback book is dated 1938 and appears to be a first edition and is inscribed and signed by Edger Guest on a front inside page and the inscription states "FOR DONALD KRAATZ - WITH THE ADMIRATION AND SINCERELY BEST WISHES OF HIS FRIEND, EDGER GUEST, JUNE 22, 1938 IN CHICAGO ILL.". The 192 page book is 5 ½ x 7 ½ inches in size and is in nice condition. The framed photo of Edger Guest is inscribed and signed by Edger Guest and the inscription states "TO DONALD FROM HIS FRIEND WITH ALL GOOD WISHES EDGER A. GUEST 1938". The photographers name was "E. L. RAY, EVANSTON, ILL.". The signed photo appears to be in the same vintage frame from 1938. However the frame apparently never had glass covering the photo so and the photo is dusty and shows some light handling marks but overall looks nice with no rips or tears.
