Thaddeus Stevens CDV, G. Grelling, Detroit, Mich. Back imprint. Stevens, a Congressman from Pennsylvania, was against the fugitive Slave Laws of the 1850s, Majority Leader of the House of Representatives under Lincoln and Johnson, opposed President Johnson’s reconstruction policies after the Civil War, and a leader in the movement to impeach President Johnson. A beautiful image of Stevens having excellent contrast and detail.
