Lot of 4 photographs the Dornier DO-X, each 2 3/4" x 4 5/8", 1931, New York Harbor. Built by Dr. Claude Dornier in 1929, the DO-X flying boat could transport over 100 passengers in luxury under the power of its twelve massive engines. At best an experimental albatross, the plane suffered mechanically and drank some 400 gallons of fuel an hour! Nonetheless, she was sent on a publicity flight to New York that made every possible landfall on the way and took some ten months to complete. These images show the cumbersome DO-X arriving - at last - in New York. Aged to a pleasing sepia color, VF condition.
