War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Corp. H.M. Ives, 6th Connecticut Volunteers, 24th Army Corps, 1pp. quarto, pencil, “Pretty near Richmond”, December 27, 1864, and reads in part: “...I am color bearer now. I carry the state color a high position. The three highest posts of honor in a regt is Right, Left & Center, the center being the colors is the highest. I am called to witness an execution every few days. I have seen 22 shot lately for desertion and there is 49 more to suffer death. We were reviewed by Brig Gen. Hawley & Foster, Major Gen. Terry & Ord it was a splendid affair...” Fine condition.
