BRYAN, William Jennings (1860-1925). Politician, editor, Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson, three-time unsuccessful Democratic candidate for president, gained notoriety as prosecutor in Scopes "Monkey" trial in 1925. Typed Letter Signed, “W.J. Bryan”, 1p. quarto, as Secretary of State, August 14, 1914, addressed to the American Ambassador in London, Walter Hines Page, and reads: “At the request of the Honorable F.m. Simmons, a United States Senator from the State of North Carolina, I take great pleasure in introducing Mr. Howard W. Bible, who is about to proceed abroad as a newspaper war correspondent, representing the New York Globe and other American newspapers...” Framed with print of Bryan. FIne.
