DEWEY, Thomas E. (1902-1971). Gang-busting Prohibition attorney, Governor of New York and Republican candidate for President in 1944 and 1948. Typed Letter Signed "Thomas E. Dewey", one page, octavo, March 4, 1939 to Leo B. Bicher, Hackensack, New Jersey. Dewey writes in part: "I have your letter of February 21st, concerning the invitation of the Hackensack Lodge of Elks to address an Americanization meeting in March...Unfortunately, however, the pressure of my work is such that I am unable to accept any invitations at this time...". VF condition.
