JACKSON, Andrew. (1767-1845) Seventh President of the United States 1829-37, unsuccessful candidate in 1824 winning a plurality of votes but losing to John Quincy Adams by House decision, Major General and hero of War of 1812. "Old Hickory" was the first President to ride on a train in 1833, and survived the first attempted assassination of a President in 1835. Partly-printed Document Signed, “Andrew Jackson” as President of the United States, 1p. folio, April 27, 1833, providing permission for the passage of ship commanded by Joseph Tuber to pass from New Bedford to the Pacific Ocean, on a “whaling voyage”. Countersigned by Secretary of State Edward Livingston (1764-1836) who drafted Jackson’s nullification papers. Fine.
