INGALLS, Rufus (1818- 1893) was an American military general who served as the 16th Quartermaster General of the United States Army. War-date Endorsement Signed “Rufus Ingalls” on verso of Autograph Letter Signed by Herman Biggs (1832-1887), Lt. Colonel & QM, 1pp. quarto, June 25, 1864, Fort Monroe, Virginia, addressed to General Ingalls and reads in part: “...there are owned and chartered by the United States the following vessels, ‘Gen. Jessup’, ‘Foster’, ‘Burnside”, ‘Reno’ and ‘Parks’ (owned) and ‘Chas Chamberlain’ (chartered) which have been placed at the service of , and are now employed by the Naval Brigade, Brig. Genl. Chas. K. Graham Comdg and which are under his immediate control....” Very good condition.
