Songbook, "Garfield and Arthur Campaign Songbook", 24 pp. 6"x9", Washington D.C., printed by J.M. Armstrong & Co., Philadelphia, 1880. Pink illustrated paper covers with portraits of Garfield and Arthur, faint rubber stamp "From the Republican Central Committee, Detroit, Mich." on cover. Patriotic and highly partisan songs, some with music, others noting tunes everyone knew, from the era when the Republicans waved the bloody shirt and remained the staunch supporters of Negro suffrage in the South. "Vote for Garfield and For Law" included "The Constitution gives the right, To vote to colored men: And we will go with all our might, True Straight Republican." "Now I am the Leader of the Deomcracee" used the tune of "When I Was a Lad" from the recent hit show "Pinafore". Stray ink marks on cover, small piece of lower right hand corner missing, else VG.
