A scarce July 12, 1962 letter that Richard Nixon signed as Dick Nixon. The letter has good content and mentions the 1962 California Governor Primary as well as the upcoming tough California Governorship campaign as Nixon was the Republican candidate. Richard Nixon signatures as Dick Nixon are scarce as he would normally only sign as Dick to special friends or associates. Also Nixon letters from the 1962 California Governor campaign are very scarce. The letter is to a close supporter in California. The letter has Richard Nixon letterhead and states "RICHARD NIXON, JULY 12, 1962. DEAR MRS. PETZOLD: I WANT YOU TO KNOW HOW VERY MUCH I HAVE GREATLY APPRECIATED ALL YOU DID IN MY BEHALF DURING OUR PRIMARY CAMPAIGN. THE PROSPECTS ARE THAT THE CAMPAIGN AHEAD WILL BE HARDEST FOUGHT IN CALIFORNIA'S HISTORY. HOWEVER, I AM CONFIDENT THAT OUR DECISIVE PRIMARY VICTORY HAS PROVIDED THE SPRINGBOARD WE NEED TO ASSURE SUCCESS IN NOVEMBER. KNOWING THAT YOU ARE ON THE TEAM IN OUR CRUSADE FOR A BETTER CALIFORNIA, WITH A SOUND, DYNAMIC ADMINISTRATION IN SACRAMENTO, WILL BE A CONSTANT SOURCE OF INSPERATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT DURING THE MONTHS AHEAD. WITH EVERY GOOD WISH, SINCERELY DICK NIXON.". The supporters Sacramento address is typed below and a pencil note below that gives a LA address, possibly for Nixon headquarters. The letter is 7 x 10 1/2 inches and has normal folds.
