BUSH, George (b. 1924) 41st President of the United States. Director of the CIA 1976-77; Vice President under Reagan 1981-1989. He defeated Dukakis in 1988 with 54% of the popular vote and 426 electoral votes. He guided the nation through the Invasion of Panama and the capture of Noriega, and the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991. During his administration Communism collapsed.
