Fine and rare early Colorado stereoview "FORT ARNETT, RED CLIFF." Features group of 16 soldiers in uniform standing on top of a rock outcropping with large garrison sized American flag flying above. One soldier is shouldering a rifle, another holds a signal flag. Square cut images on yellow mount with imprint "AMERICAN SCENERY - VIEWS IN COLORADO." Verso has imprinted period advertisement "Call at Richards & Co. and examine their assortment of PERFUMES IN BULK." Very slight toning to image and mount, slight wear at corners, otherwise in fine condition. A rare Colorado image. RED CLIFF, COLORADO was established in 1879 near the Eagle River at Vail Mountain, north of Leadville. Latecomers to Leadville found that the most promising claims were already staked out and headed north to establish themselves in Red Cliff. Red Cliff enjoyed over a decade of prosperity with the success of the early prospectors as the town became a mining center and the county seat of Eagle County.
