ALEXANDER S. WEBB…graduate of West Point in 1855, by 1863 he was Brig. General leading a brigade in the Pennsylvania campaign and at Gettysburg. Lot of four letters entirely penned in his bold hand with full autograph signature on each. All on printed letterheads as president of the college, dated 1893 through 1895 to his friend and fellow "M of H" recipient George Albee. Includes three short notes (single page) each with a lengthier two page letter about lobbying for a military bill in Congress in which he writes: "…only one hitch and that is the military committee of the House. Ruggles and Miles working for the benefit of [me] God bless them…" All exc. Accompanied by a wealth of photostatic material about Webb's impressive career and heroism in many battles. At Gettysburg he "…spent the whole day on the firing line." Meade stated when presenting him with the M of H for his heroism "…had not been surpassed by any general in the field…" Accompanied by two envelopes addressed in his hand to Albee at the Winchester Arms in New Haven.
