General Mackenzie officially praises the qualities of Henry Lawton !

"General Order" single page printed broadside issued at "HDQTRS DISTRICT OF NEW MEXICO / SANTA FE OCT. 23, 1883" 5 x 8; blank reverse; wide margins. Relieving Captain Lawton, at his own request from duty as Engineer Officer ordering him to Troop B 4'th Cavalry at Fort Stanton N.M. "…the general commanding wishes officially and personally to acknowledge the great obligations under which he rests to that officer, for unusual capacity and energy in difficult situations, for untiring intelligent work and the supply of important commands over long lines and for strong qualities in construction at posts…" and more. Also naming Lawton's successor. With penned signature of the general's Aide de Camp. Exc. (Note: issued only two months prior to Lawton's witnessing MacKenzie's breakdown; see item above.)
