11 page booklet (6 x 9) "FUNERAL ORATION AT OBSEQUIES OF MAJOR GENERAL HENRY W. LAWTON, U.S. VOLUNTEERS…BY PROF. M. WOOLSEY STRYKER…CHURCH OF THE COVENANT FEB. 9, 1900, WASHINGTON CITY." Original heavy paper covers (light damp stain lower corner only); exc. +. Mentions Lawton's Civil War, Indian War and Spanish War achievements including his capture of Geronimo. ACCOMPANIED BY three original single sheet letters from Stryker to Captain Albee. Each on fancy printed letterhead "HAMILTON COLLEGE / THE PRESIDENT'S ROOMS / CLINTON, NEW YORK" dated shortly after the funeral (Feb. 14 and May 23, 1900) each with fine full signature of Stryker; each regarding news clippings and photographs of Lawton that Albee had sent and "souvenirs" of Lawton's that Albee owned; other recollections. All exc. Accompanied by lengthy bio sketch of Stryker from noted work on famous Americans. Stryker had lengthy career as a minister and long career as president of Hamilton College; many published works by him; also influential in Republican politics.
