Federal soldier’s letter written by John H. Gray, who enlisted into Indiana 101st Infantry, August 1862 and mustered out June 1865. Datelined, Between Glasgow & Munfordville, Jan.1st., , 1863, 4pp., “John H. Gray”, in part, “Why we have to get rid of fighting at Munfordville and Glasgow for Morgan has passed both of these places and done lots of damage elsewhere. ... On our march we crossed big and Little Barren Rivers which were from 2 to 3 feet deep. They had to be forded as Morgan had burned the bridges and as as it is very much colder up here than down in Tenn. ... I saw 12,000 men take clubs and go out rabbit hunting. They got nearly 500 rabbits ...” Comes with original cover.
