Genl. Com. Post" on docket portion of letter by E.W. Bonney, 2pp. quarto, Camden, South Carolina, September 21, 1864, addressed to General Chestnut, and reads in part: "...My son F.P.L. Bonney who was but 16 years old last Thursday the 15th, who was at school at Winsborough, S.C. left that place with a comp of reserves last week. The affair has bothered me a good deal & as he was not liable for that organization, I write to ask if I cannot get him relieved. I have not heard from him but presume he has gone to Florence. My object is not to keep him out of the Army, but his going at this time has seriously interfered with my plans. I have applied for him at the Arsenal in Columbia, S.C. next winter and presume he will get the appointment...As he is only 16 years old, I prefer much he should go with the Aresnal boys..." With order by General Chestnut signed by his ADC Isaac Hayne ordering Bonney to be discharged and then endorsed by General Fry. Period copy of document included. Fine condition.
