War-date Ohio public servant's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written on Lady liberty patriotic stationery, by office seeker "J. R. B. C.," Chiloh,", [Chillicothe, Ohio], Jan. 13, 1864, in small part: "…I have not got my commission a Co [as county] surveyor…it is not decided yet to whom it belongs. I think my prospects are good. The Supreme Court was to decide the constitutionality of the soldier's vote…I have not heard how they decided . That will settle the matter. Our lawyer's fee will [be] about $200. (it is supposed) so you see it will [be] gaining to a 'loss' to me. I shall have to pay more than $20…Sam Galloway is attending our case at Columbus & old Geo. W. King at Georgetown! I got a certificate for 18 months…(12th of Dec.)…Newt why don't you get a bed fellow this cold weather…the best thing for you is to get a companion…J. R. C. B." Toning, else VG.
