The first is an self-covering ,Autograph Letter Signed "Simeon Huntington, Adjt of the 20th Regt", to Elijah Backus Esqr., Captain of the 2nd Alarm Company in ye 20th Regt., datelined Norwich, August 15, 1777. In full, "Pursuent to the orders from Col. S. Abbot you are ordered forwith to convey to me a True Return of the Company under your command agreeable to the enclosed form." Also a notation in Samuel Abbott Cook, Col., "Regimental orders Aug. 13th 1777, Lieut. Simeon Huntington is appointed adjutant of the 20th Regt. and is to be obeyed & respected as such." ... plus, Manuscript list, 4" x 10-1/4", of 25 soldiers and the monies due each. The 20th Regiment of Connecticut Militia was formed in 1774 and was initially commanded by Colonel Jedidiah Huntington. He served with the unit from October 1774 to May 1777, when he was promoted to Brigadier in the Continental Army and his command was filled by Samuel Abbott. Abbott had been a prominent Connecticut businessman and served as Lieutenant Colonel until his promotion. He served as Colonel of the 20th until May 1780, when he too was promoted. The 20th Regiment was stationed in Boston from the spring of 1775 to 1776 when the British evacuated the city.
