Complete and authentic volume of The (London) Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle, six issues, January-June, 1787. Octavo. 566 pages. Repaired spine, covers intact. Jewel of this volume is the speech GEORGE WASHINGTON gave when he was informed he was unanimously chosen to continue as Chief Command of the American Army in its struggle with Great Britain (April issue). There are other regular reports from American on the turmoil of war and debate on how to replenish the treasury from the debt of war and how to deal with regulating commerce. The colonies are having a tough time in these reports. There is also a report on the treaty in America with the Creek Indian nation. Some of them will be executed for murdering whites and whites have agreed not to settle on their hunting grounds. Good luck with that. A South Carolina judge gives a lengthy charge to a grand jury outlining all the travails going on with Great Britain and urges them to keep the law and honor uppermost in their deliberations on indictments. Is Massachusetts on the verge of seceding from itself? That is speculation in a brief report from those rebellious colonists. Tons more. Great offering.
