Dateline U.S. Counsul Queenstown, August 14, 1862, 1pp. in part "I have the honor to inform the department of the arrival ... of the steam vessel Columbia ... now taking in coals ... She is painted black, has a full female figure head, side wheels, 2 funnels black, .. is reported to steam at 15 knots and hour ... Cargo has been stated as ballast. It is rumored she is about to run the blockade and apparently deeply laden ...." Then on the same page, Datelined U.S. Consul at Barcelona, August 13, 1862, in part "The Brig Mary Scaife that entered this port under the rebel flag ... cleared from here for Vera Cruz Mexico under the British Flag and bearing papers issued by the British Consul ..."
