Richard "Dick" Taylor (1826-1879) was an American planter, politician, military historian, and Confederate general. Taylor commanded the District of West Louisiana and was responsible for successfully opposing U.S. Federal Government troops invading upper northwest Louisiana during the Red River Campaign of 1864. Cut from a document this endorsement is fully in Taylor's hand, "If a larger quantity has accumulated there it must have been under the direction of Gen'l Hood, as no orders on the subject occurred from me. R. Taylor, Lieut. Gen'l."
