BANKS, Nathaniel Prentice (1816-1894) was an American politician from Massachusetts and a Union general during the Civil War. Autograph letter signed, "N.P. Banks" on an official United States Military Telegraph Office form, August 24, 1864, New Orleans, to the Provost Marshal, in full "It is reported to me that in the schools of Thibodaux the "Bonnie Blue Flag" is sung as a school exercise please inform me if it be so or if the National airs are not sung."
